Format

Criminal Justice internships are asynchronous. There are no class meetings required. The internship courses entail field work at a placement site for approximately 140 hours throughout the semester. This is a MINIMUM of 12 hours each week.

Application Process

CRIM internship placements can be extremely competitive. Most sites accept between 1-2 interns so the application process must be a priority the semester before you intern. Some sites require 淫性视频 to make initial contact and others require specific qualifications. Our internship coordinator has a contact person for each of our affiliated sites and will share the information with you when you meet.

Please schedule your meeting as soon as you have familiarized yourself with all 5 steps on the internship main page and no later than 1 week after you complete the application: https://stockton.edu/social-behavioral-sciences/internships-centers-initiatives.html.

All meetings and interviews should be treated as a professional situation. Arrive 5 minutes early wearing professional attire with a pen and paper. For virtual interviews, be prepared to be seated in a quiet location, use a virtual background and follow the same guidelines listed above.

Please do not contact any organization for an academic internship until the internship coordinator has approved your placement.

More Information

Criminal Justice students typically intern with police, courts, or corrections. When completing the application, please identify 3-5 specific sites of interest. Students may have to successfully pass a background check if required by the sponsoring agency and incur the cost of this process.  In cases of demonstrated need, financial aid may be available to assist with the cost by contacting the SOBL Office.

During CRIM internships, students will:

  • Work directly in the field
  • Clarify career goals and assess professional options
  • Integrate knowledge from Crim classes with real world employment experience

My time at this internship I have learned a lot of things when it comes to the courtroom and juvenile cases that I didn't know before starting here. I saw a lot of value in what I learned in the internship because even though you may think you know about something just because you learned it in class doesn鈥檛 mean you actually know what it going on until you are actually in that setting.

Throughout my time as a spring intern within the judiciary I was able to gain further knowledge in accordance with probation and the tasks that a probation officers exhibit. I enjoyed every minute of interning, and surprisingly the paperwork duties.
