By request of Bob Shipley and Shane Delorme, the Board of Trustees of the Richard 淫性视频 College of New Jersey establishes the Student Association of First Aid Emergency Responders (S.A.F.E.R.) on May 4, 2011. SAFER will go on to become 淫性视频 EMS. Shipley and Delorme worked closely with the 淫性视频 Police Department and Chief of Police Glenn Miller to get the organization off the ground. The police department provided SAFER with a GEM car to respond to emergencies as well as their bright blue uniforms, which the membership dubbed the 鈥渂lueberry鈥 uniforms.

During the spring and summer of 2012, SAFER began to take on more responsibility on campus and officially moved into their space at the police department in June. They partnered with with Rowan University EMS in order to learn from the success of their EMS organization and used that information to improve SAFER so that it could handle the expanding responsibility. That added responsibility was tested as SAFER members were tasked with helping the recovery effort after the Derecho storm on June 30, 2012.

 The Founding of 淫性视频 EMS

As told by the Richard 淫性视频 College Chief of Police Glenn Miller

"Last fall, two students came to the police department with an idea about starting a first aid squad on campus. The students were Bobby Shipley and Shane Delorme both of them volunteer Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT) in their home town. Bobby and Shane had the concept of starting a first aid squad on campus staffed by student volunteers. They were asked to develop a concept paper and provide some idea of how many EMTs they thought would be willing to assist on a volunteer basis and had the requisite training. They came back with a list of students wanting to get involved and volunteer as well a concept document that provided the framework of what would become an operational procedure. We submitted the proposal to the VP of Administration and Finance and with his support took it to the President. Thanks to the President鈥檚 support, it was taken to the Board of Trustees in May/2011 who unanimously approved the Student Association of First Aid Emergency Responders under the supervision of the police department.

"Working with the students, members from the police department and other community members, operational procedures (SOP) were developed to begin the implementation of the S.A.F.E.R. Program. Over the summer uniforms were designed, equipment was ordered, procedures refined and volunteer recruitment commenced. The plan was to have the S.A.F.E.R. medical corp operational in the fall semester, 2011. Officers Brian Widell and Alvin Chan volunteered to be program coordinators. Communications Operator and EMT Barry Kraus, Complex Director George Roitzsch and Campus Center Assistant Director Joe Lizza volunteered to work on equipment supply lists and training programs. By the first week of school 20 students had volunteered to become part of the S.A.F.E.R. program. More than half of those students were already fully certified EMTs with the remaining willing to receive the training needed to be part of the program. On October 14, 2011, the S.A.F.E.R. Program participated in its first deployment, that being the Homecoming Parade in the Sports Center. Thankfully, their services were not needed at that event but on October 15, 2011, the S.A.F.E.R. staffed two different locations on campus during the Homecoming Day Events. Several first aid calls were responded to by the S.A.F.E.R. volunteers on that day much to the thanks of the victims who needed their help.

"During the week October 17-21 training was held thanks to the assistance of George Roitzsch and Barry Kraus that brought all the volunteers into compliance with our operational procedures. We now have a cadre of 20 student volunteers ready to assist and support any event on campus where first aid medical care may be needed. So, if you are having an event and think some first aid personnel on scene might be a safe idea, do not hesitate to contact us so we can schedule our S.A.F.E.R. volunteers. Having watched them in action on several occasions in their very short history, I can tell you this is a program that will be very helpful to the safety of our campus. Thanks to all who volunteered and helped organize this program. Special thanks to Bobby Shipley and Shane Delorme for all their hard work in developing this program."
