Alumni Highlight - Dr. Mark-Allan Donaldson

Mark-Allan Donaldson has recently defended his doctoral dissertation, “The Truth and Other Fictions: The Nuance of Truth in Medieval Literature,” and is now enjoying some well-earned rest with his cats, who were both his biggest supporters and his harshest critics. He teaches at The City College of New York, focusing on the Middle Ages in courses like Love in the Time of Dragons and The Medieval Other: Monsters, Witches, and Those People Over There. Mark-Allan has two articles being published in late 2024/early 2025 which focus on modern representations and adaptations of medieval material, “Video Games as Pedagogical Tools in Medieval Studies” in Studies on Medieval and Renaissance Teaching, and “Comics and the New Camelot: Spaces of Arthurian Continuation and Critique” in Arthuriana. He currently lives in New York City with his spouse, Kaye Baginsky an international book scout and fellow SU alum. 

“As an immigrant from South Africa, I found the prospect of American higher education daunting. I came to ������Ƶ as a promise to my mom that I would try at least one semester of college but was sure I wouldn’t be enrolling in a second semester. At the end of my first month, I declared a major in the Literature program and was on my way to pursuing my now-completed goal of earning a PhD, which would not have been possible without the support and guidance of the ������Ƶ faculty.”
