Those sheets will be given to housing for distribution in residential areas. We will also have a voting station in the lower campus center where students can cast their ballots. Flyers for the election have also been made and will be given to event services for distribution. Academic Policies Becky reported the following: Last week, we began looking into having EMT Training and CNA Certification brought on to Ƶs campus. Unfortunately, it is not available for Ƶ students because it is offered at the community college. Ƶ students are more than welcomed to go the local community college in this area or their home town for that certification. Ben is following up on the journalism program and is set to meet with Art and Humanities later this week. Chair of Student Welfare bought to my attention students' concern with class scheduling and its inconvenient times. We will begin working together to see if we ca reorganize class schedules in a way that would benefit students, professors and student organizations. We noticed students have been interested in more internship opportunities. Please advise students that Ƶ has a Career Center. It is located in the lower Campus Center Suite 104 and is open on Monday through Wednesday from 8:30 am to 7 pm and Thursday and Friday from 8:30 am to 5 pm. Please advise students that there is a new deadline to withdraw from a course. It is now November 13, 2012. If anyone has any Academic issues or concerns please continue to bring them to our attention and we will address the issues accordingly. Legislative Policies and Government Affairs Justin reported the following: The committee will continue to help PEP (Political Engagement Project) to register students to vote throughout the month and up to Election Day, November 6, 20102 He met with AJ and Sharon Schulman on Monday to discuss plans of initiating a student-led campaign to promote and gain support of the Building our Future Bond Referendum. Over the next month, the committee will be focusing its main efforts towards the campaign. The committee, along with student volunteers will be hosting three major events this month to promote the referendum and voting amongst students. These events will be in conjunction with PEP, the Office of External Affairs and Institutional Research and the Presidents Office. More information will follow in the upcoming weeks. Finally, a meeting between AJ, Daniel Tome, Director of Service Learning, and Emily Ryan, Educator Director for the New York Times, is in the works for some time next week. The meeting will be in regards of discussing a potential partnership between Ƶ Student Senate and the New York Times. More information will provided after the meeting. Student Welfare Melissa reported the following: The meeting started with former chair Mico Lucide giving the committee an edited version of the Chick-fil-A survey that included some extra text boxes for suggestions. It was passed unanimously. Mico then clarified that the survey was subject to more change after a meeting with administration that would be had the next day. The rest of the meeting was discussion on extending campus center hours and a survey made by Stephanie. The end result was the decision to go to Campus Center Operations and see if they are willing to extend Campus Center hours of operation to 2 am at three points during the semester; the first two weeks of the semester, when lots of events going on; the middle two weeks of the semester, for midterms; and the last two weeks of the semester for finals. From there, we will see if students still request later hours, and if they do, we will make a survey to see if and why students still want the Campus Center hours extended. Updates from other issues being addressed Mico met with Joe Loefflad about wi-fi signal and got a comprehensive answer: it has to do with the access points, or routers, that the school has. There are plans to order more and place them in areas where they are needed, but until the end of the semester Housing is not likely to receive them. Then, Tech will need ability to move around the apartments in order to easily and safely install them. Finance SET submitted a supplemental in the amount of $1,813.41 in order to fund their annual trip to the NACA Regional Conference in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. The conference will give SET discounted rates on multiple performers. The material learned at this conference will be brought back to the student body immediately. Matt moved to approve the request, seconded by Melissa Lyon. Motion passed: 22-0-2* *Senators Abstained: AJ Vervoort and Melissa Lyon HERO Club submitted a supplemental in the amount of $300 in order to purchase HERO bracelets which will be issued to students as a constant reminder to pre plan alternate options when consuming alcoholic beverages. Peter moved to approve the request seconded by Kaitlin. Motion passed: 22-0-2* *Senators Abstained: AJ Vervoort and Chukwuemeka Nnadi Peer Education Club submitted a supplemental in the amount of $2,321 in order to fund their annual trip to the Bacchus and Gamma National Education Conference in Orlando Florida. Motion Passed 17-6-1* *Senators Opposed: Dave Mooring, Peter Bruno, Justin Frankel, Al Nagbe, David Lamando, and Ellis Bonds Senators Abstained: AJ Vervoort Jessica then moved to amend the request to $1,605, seconded by Stephanie. Motion Passed 20-3-1* *Senators Opposed: Dave Mooring, Justin Frankel, and Matt Monte Senators Abstained: AJ Vervoort Last year the Student Senate allocated $32,000 of activity fee budget funds to the ARGO. Unfortunately, since they are an incorporated organization, we can only allocate $30,600 to them without the Board of Trustees vote. The committee advises that we retract the allocation of $1,400 and split it between the supplemental budget and the Student Senate budget. The Student Senate will use this $700 to buy ads from the ARGO and offset some of the financial burden for the ARGO- they were forced to go from 20 page issues to 16 page issues due to the cut in funds. Matt moved to approve the request, seconded by Billy. Motion Passed 22-1-1* *Senators Opposed: Ben Peoples Senators Abstained: AJ Vervoort Maribeth has been in communication with Craig Stambaugh, Associate Dean of Students, and Pedro Santana, Dean of Students, in regards to getting a permit to allow clubs and organizations to hold raffles on campus. If this is possible, it will increase opportunities for clubs to raise their own funds and decrease the amount of supplemental requests we receive. She is currently researching if and how other sister state schools go about this. Announcements/Comments from the Public: Len Farber, Director of Student Development, thanked the Senate for help with Homecoming, announcing it as the most attended ever, with 700 family members in attendance. Trish Krevetski, COO of Ƶ Affiliated Services, Inc., reminded students about the DVD Now machine near the food court. Students can sign up for a free membership that will give a free overnight rental. Tom O'Donnell, Assistant Dean of Students, congratulated the Senate for today's meeting and asking the hard questions and making the process work. Steven Heerema, from Speech and Hearing Club, announced Send Silence Flying, an event to promote mental health, will run on October 18th from 10am to 4pm. There will be a panel that day at 4:30pm. The day is cosponsored in conjunction with the Library, Active Minds, the Wellness Center, and RHA.
