Senators who were absent or late were noted. Derek moved to approve the minutes of the April 24, 2007 meeting, seconded by Kevin. Motion Passed: 23-0-1* * Senator Abstained: Jennifer Anzuena Presidents Report: Jennifer Anzuena Jennifer welcomed returning and new senators. She then reported that the Student Senate training was a success. Vice Presidents Report: John Odoardo John announced the next Inter-club Council meeting and gave Homecoming updates. Committee Reports: Finance Larry welcomed everyone back. Larry left at this time. The Student Senate submitted a supplemental in the amount of $11,550 for Homecoming events. John moved to approve the supplemental, seconded by Mike. Motion Passed: 22-0-1* * Senator Abstained: Jennifer Anzuena School Spirit Mike reported that Danielle was appointed to be the liaison with the Public Relations Committee. Mike then stated that the committee is working on the idea of a school wide philanthropy during the holiday season and cooperating with other clubs on campus. Mike then reported that Senate will be decorating and judging the Spirit Contest for Homecoming. Mike concluded by stating that hes been having conversations with Craig Stambaugh, Director of the College Center, and Joseph Lizza, Assistant Director of the College Center, about creating more school spirit in the Lakeside Center and the Ospreys Nest by decorating it with Ƶ memorabilia. Academic Policies Jyron stated that the committee would like to continue and maintain a relationship with Dr. David Carr, Provost/Executive Vice President. Derek Simmons will be the liaison for the faculty senate and will go to each meeting and report back any news and concerns. Jyron then reported that the committee would like to create a massive email system to inform students about different events, as well as getting their suggestions and concerns. Jyron then informed everyone that the committee is going to sponsor the Undecided Fair sometime at the end of October or early November before Preceptorial Advising Day. They would also like to start a program in F-wing about how to find your preceptor. Jyron concluded his report by stating that the committee is going to make an Academic Policy facebook group concerning different issues that students might have about their academic careers. Public Relations Erline reported that the committee is working with School Spirit on suggestions for the Club Fair. Erline then stated that the committee is working on the timetable for the upcoming senate election. She asked that senators help with tabling and promoting petitions. Student Welfare Chantal stated that shes met with Dr. Eileen Conran, Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs, regarding getting visible numbers and/or names on each parking lot and getting gazebos built outside. Vanetta arrived at this time. Jerry informed everyone that he will be working with Housing on getting thermostats in Housing 3 and possibly installing swipes on the room doors. Lee reported that he spoke to Fran Battone, Director of Counseling and Health Services, about promoting Josh Blue. Josh Blue has cerebral palsy and was the winner of Last Comic Standing. Xilena stated that she will be working on the 24-hour study room issue. Announcements/Comments from the Public: A representative from the NAACP announced that there would be a march in support of the Jena 6. Craig Stambaugh, Director of the College Center, announced that the web calendar is up and running. Craig stated that due to the parking issues, they will limit scheduling external events. Craig then introduced Joseph Lizza, Assistant Director of the College Center. Joseph then gave College Center updates. Tom ODonnell, Assistant to the Dean, announced that on October 9th, there will be a Prejudice Reduction workshop. Elaine Grant, Interim Director of Summer Conferences and Special Projects, announced that the school is working on getting bike lockers and a fitness trail. She then asked for assistance with voter registration and the upcoming blood drive.
