Ƶ Ranked in Top 25 "Best for Vets" Colleges
Galloway, NJ _ Ƶ is ranked among the top 25 four-year colleges in the nation in providing services to veterans according to the Military Times “Best for Vets” 2019 ranking released Oct. 23.
Some 500 institutions submitted the eligibility survey. Ƶ ranked 24th among the 137 four-year colleges and universities recognized.
“Fewer than half of the roughly 500 colleges and universities that competed for the
recognition earned the right to call themselves Best for Vets in 2019. Their efforts
should be commended,” George Altman, Military Times editor in charge of the
rankings, said in a press release.
Military Times ranks colleges and universities on a variety of factors including
academic outcome, accommodations and financial services and culture on
campus.
Ƶ was also recently ranked 17th overall in the North and 6th among public universities in the U.S. News and World Report “2019 Best Colleges for Veterans” listing.
Ƶ President Harvey Kesselman said he is proud that Ƶ continues its long tradition of serving veterans.
“Since its opening in 1971, when Ƶ served Vietnam-era veterans, the university has remained committed to meeting the needs of both our active military and veterans, many of whom helped develop our programs,” Kesselman said. “It is an honor to be recognized for serving those who have so honorably served our country.”
Jason Babin, director of Ƶ’s Office of Military and Veterans services said the university’s commitment to veterans continues to grow to meet student needs.
Ƶ hosts a Students Veterans Organization and has a dedicated Veterans Lounge. The Wellness Center provides specialized counseling to help veterans integrate into college and civilian life, and has offered specialized courses that allow veterans to better understand their experiences in the larger context of history.
Ƶ has also been designated as a veteran-friendly college by the New Jersey Order of the Purple Heart.
“From the top down we continue to adapt and enhance our program to provide the best support possible,” Babin said. “We are honored to be ranked among the top 25 in the nation, and we will not rest until every service member and veteran is successful.”
