Assemblyman Troy Singleton visited ������Ƶ on Tuesday, March 1 as the William J. Hughes Center for Public Policy Legislator-in-Residence.

“It was a great pleasure to see how engaged and enthusiastic ������Ƶ students were during Assemblyman Troy Singleton’s visit as Legislator-in-Residence,” said Daniel J. Douglas, director of the Hughes Center.

Democrat Troy Singleton, of Palmyra, was first sworn into the New Jersey General Assembly on November 21, 2011, filling the unexpired term of Jack Conners. Singleton represents the 7th Legislative District, which includes the Burlington County municipalities of Beverly, Bordentown City, Bordentown Township, Burlington City, Burlington Township, Cinnaminson, Delanco, Delran, Edgewater Park, Fieldsboro, Florence, Moorestown, Mount Laurel, Palmyra, Riverside, Riverton and Willingboro.

The Legislator-in-Residence program is designed to bring New Jersey lawmakers to ������Ƶ to engage with the students and faculty and to share their experiences as legislators. Their firsthand stories of the legislative process provide additional insight beyond the classroom curriculum.
The day started with a tour of the Campus Center conducted by Pedro J. Santana, dean of Students, and John Froonjian, senior research associate, of the Hughes Center.

While at ������Ƶ, Singleton met with student veterans and Tom O'Donnell, assistant dean of Students/Veteran Affairs/Leadership, and talked to them about programs and opportunities available to veterans, relevant legislation, and issues that need to be addressed. Students shared their positive experiences with the variety of services that are provided for student veterans at ������Ƶ. Singleton also had an engaging meeting with members of the Student Senate.

 

Assemblyman Singleton also took part in Assistant Professor of Political Science Daniel Mallinson’s State and Local Government class, and Assistant Professor of Political Science Claire Abernathy’s Introduction to American Politics class.
During his March 1 visit, Singleton took a tour of the William J. Hughes Center for Public Policy, talked to Douglas, director of the Hughes Center, and his research team about the center’s current projects, and met with Sharon Schulman, Chief University Relations and Marketing Officer.
