About the South Jersey Holocaust Survivors Project

Please join us to tell the stories of our South Jersey Holocaust Survivors!

The Holocaust Survivors of South Jersey Project (HSSJP) is an initiative of the Sara and Sam Schoffer Holocaust Resource Center at ÒùÐÔÊÓƵ. The project aims to document the lives of Holocaust Survivors who settled in Atlantic, Cape May, and Cumberland counties as well as immediately adjacent areas in Salem and Gloucester counties.

Our digital archive documents the Holocaust survivors’ stories. The archive with tens of thousands of digitized documents, photographs, and other materials can be accessed at the Holocaust Resource Center on ÒùÐÔÊÓƵ’s main campus in Galloway, or remotely by special arrangement. This website presents brief life stories as well as profiles of South Jersey businesses owned and operated by local Holocaust survivors. The archives and the number of profiles will continue to grow as more information and documents become available. In the future, the HSSJP will complete a digital exhibition about the Holocaust and the experiences of Survivors in our region, and a traveling exhibition about Holocaust survivor families living on poultry farms from the late 1930s into the 1970s. Lectures, workshops, and other events draw on the wealth of materials as well as the dedicated research of faculty, students, and staff. Our commitment is to preserve the legacy and ensure the remembrance of Holocaust Survivors who have lived in southern New Jersey and, in the process, immeasurably enriched our region.
