ÒùÐÔÊÓƵ will be hosting 21 Years of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service on:

Monday, January 20, 2025!  

The event will be entirely in-person and feature projects at our Galloway, Atlantic City, Woodbine, and Hammonton locations.


The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service is ÒùÐÔÊÓƵ’s signature Annual Day of Service.

The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service brings together over 500 students, community members, and community partners, and often encompasses over 15 projects both on- and off-campus. The goal of Days of Service are to provide an intensive, community-wide experience for students and to introduce them to partners where they can serve long-term and develop an ongoing relationship.

 

Registration for on- and off-campus projects will begin promptly at 9:00 a.m. on each campus. Volunteers will be directed to their project after the morning program.

9:00 am - Registration and Breakfast

9:30 am - Opening Remarks

10:00 am to 12:30 pm - Service Projects

12:30 pm to 1:30 pm - End-of-event survey and give-away distribution

 

 

A Sample of the Available Projects Include:

  1. New Angles for Success - Participants will listen to a short presentation, tour the ÒùÐÔÊÓƵ Science building and participate in a backyard bass activity.
  2. Reusable T-Shirt Totes Project - Volunteers upcycle donated t-shirts by converting them into interesting and fun tote bags that will then be donated to local food assistance programs.
  3. Dog Bed and Dog Toy Making Activity - Volunteers will assist in making dog beds out of fabric and dog toys out of old t-shirts. All completed dog beds and toys will be donated to a local animal rescue.
  4. Postcard, Button-Making and Collage about ÒùÐÔÊÓƵ and AC Experiences - Volunteers can participate in three separate stations to make postcards for seniors, button-making and creating a group collage about ÒùÐÔÊÓƵ and AC experiences.
  5. ÒùÐÔÊÓƵ Circle K - Various projects
  6. Holiday Themed Card-Making and Door Decor Making - Volunteers will make themed holiday/birthday cards and door decor wreaths for local assisted living facilities.
  7. Hat/Cape Making - Participants will make hospital hats for babies and superhero capes. Materials will be provided to make get well cards. Created items will be donated to local area hospitals.
  8. Peanut Butter & Jelly Making - Peanut Butter & Jelly Sandwiches will be assembled and packaged to be distributed to local food bank agencies.
  9. Alphabet Books - Volunteers will assemble alphabet books that will be distributed to local area non-profit agencies
  10.  Feminine Hygiene Drive Collection Project - Donated items at our feminine hygiene drive day-of will be assembled into care packages that will be distributed to those in need.
  11. Saint John’s Hospice Frozen Casseroles - Volunteers will be making casseroles for Saint John's Hospice, a homeless shelter in center city Philadelphia. The shelter accepts frozen pre-cooked casseroles, which they use as needed to feed the homeless.
  1. Gift of Giving Community Care Kits - Volunteers will place donated personal care items (donated from local resorts, and businesses) and treats into decorated bags with uplifting messages.
  2. Tiles for Smiles - Decorating glazed 4x4 tiles for mosaic installations at selected non-profit, schools and organizations.
  3. Comfort and Care Buddies - Volunteers assemble felt hand puppets and place them in decorated gift bags. All completed puppets are then donated to designated pediatric departments of hospitals and health facilities.
  4. Reusable T-Shirt Totes Project - Volunteers upcycle donated t-shirts by converting them into interesting and fun tote bags that will then be donated to local food assistance programs.
  5. AC Rescue Mission Thrift Store Assistance - Volunteers will be transported over to the Rescue Mission at 10am until 1pm. They will be assisting with putting out inventory and sorting through clothing.
  1. Galloway Township Ambulance Squad - CPR/Basic First Aid
  2. Historical Society of Hammonton - Digitize the hard copy family tree projects that were done by local high school students. Assist in developing an oral history name cross-reference.
  3. Counseling Student Organization - Love Rocks: A project where participants decorate rocks with inspiring messages/imagery that then gets left around the campus/community to spread positivity

 

Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. March in Atlantic City

Friday, January 24, 2025, 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM

Hosted by the NAACP Atlantic City Branch, the City of Atlantic City, Bridge of Faith, and ÒùÐÔÊÓƵ

The march will start at Dr. MLK Jr. School Complex (17 Marmora Ave., Atlantic City) and arrive at the Civil Rights Garden (Pacific Ave & S Dr Martin Luther King Blvd) for a brief program.
