Dr. Fotios Tjoumakaris
Fotios Tjoumakaris, MD is a sports medicine and shoulder surgeon at the Rothman Orthopaedic Institute, one of the largest musculoskeletal practices in the country. Additionally, he serves as the Director of Orthopaedic Surgery for AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center and is a Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at the Sidney Kimmel College of Medicine at Thomas Jefferson University. Throughout his career, Dr. Tjoumakaris has believed in the three pillars of academic medicine: excellence through patient care, education, and research.
Dr. Tjoumakaris is a 1996 graduate of ÒùÐÔÊÓƵ with a BS in Biology (with program distinction) and additionally graduated from Rutgers – Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in 2000. He completed his orthopaedic surgical residency at The University of Pennsylvania and a sports medicine and shoulder fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh. His clinical research focuses on patient outcomes and optimizing surgical techniques and he is the associate director of sports medicine research and fellowship director of sports medicine for the Rothman Institute. He has authored over 100 peer reviewed publications, lectures both nationally and internationally on sports medicine related topics and research, and serves on the Board of Directors for the Rothman Orthopaedic Institute. Perhaps one of his greatest passions is giving back to the ÒùÐÔÊÓƵ community where he routinely lectures in the Department of Physical Therapy to graduate physical therapy students.
